Things that make me happy

30 things I want my kids to know about me

Day 5

5 Things that make me most happy right now

1. Spending time with my husband. We have opposite schedules during the school year so it is hard to have quality time with him. When we do though, I love to spend time.

2. Spending time with my children. I love this time as well. We don't do anything fancy but we always have fun doing it.

3. Quiet time to write first thing in the morning. I love being up early to write in my blog. The house is still and I can hear birds chirping. It is a very peaceful time.

4. Reading a good book. Thanks to Goodreads, I have a whole list of books I want to bury my nose in.

 5. Daily chatting with my sisters. I try to talk to both of my sisters daily. It doesn't matter what we talk about, we just talk. I love it and miss it when things get too busy.

To my 16 year old daughter

Day 4

Dear Daughter,

I want you to know that I love you very much! I am so blessed and thankful to have you as my daughter. You have brought much joy into my life.

I want you to know that I am proud of you. You have many talents that you share and you also work hard. I know being a teenager isn't always easy but you are doing great in life. Keep up the hard work and the things you want for you life will happen.

Have fun and enjoy this time you are young! I love that you think it is cool to hang out with me and look forward to all the fun things we do.

Remember to choose friends wisely that will help you in life. Continue to do well in school and work for your goals.

Most of all, never forget that I love you and will always be here for you.

Love, Mom

My relationship with my Husband

Day 3 Describe my relationship with my husband

My husband is my best friend. I love him very much. We have had many goods times and times where we have struggled as a couple. However, we have ALWAYS worked things out. I can talk to him about anything. We have grown closer over the years we have been married. I love how he has supported me going back to school and in whatever decision I make in life. He is a very hard worker.

I love that we can talk, laugh, have fun and be serious. I love his testimony in the gospel. I am thankful every day to have him a part of my life.

Fears

30 Things I want my kids to know about me

Day 2

3 Legitimate Fears

Today I get to talk about 3 fears I have and explain how they became fears.

Fear number 1! I have a fear of drowning. I do not like to go in large bodies of water over 4 feet deep because of this fear. I can't swim because being in the water almost paralyzes me. I panic and can't breathe. I almost feel like the water is crushing me. I love being on the water in  boat or canoe because I feel safe there.

I am not really sure how I got this fear. I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't have it. That said, as I have gotten older, it has gotten better. I used to not like going in over 3 feet deep.

Fear number 2! I fear that if a disaster happens, I won't make it to my children.

This fear happened after I got divorced and the world changed so much. Whenever I think about it though, I always feel peace that I don't need to have this worry or fear. I know that everything will be ok. My children will be fine and I will be there if they need me.

Fear number 3! Public speaking
I do not like speaking in front of a group of people. I can prepare all I want but the second I get up to speak, my mind goes blank and I can't make eye contact. I get sweaty palms and feel like my mouth doesn't want to work.

I really don't know how I got this fear. I suspect that because I have an introverted personality, I don't like it. To overcome the fear, I speak when asked. The more I do it, the better I get.

Adventures in Running

                                                                                                       Image from Google images

I have a goal. I want to run a 5k. Not a bad goal since I do like to run and at one part of my life, I was good at it. However, I have not done any formal running, short of chasing children, since I ran track as a Freshman in high school. Enter the couch to 5k program! I downloaded the app to my Ipod and got ready to start. It is a simple program, you follow the program three days a week for 8 weeks. I have already been weight training in the college fitness center so I felt ready.

Week 1. Started off on day one. Completed the whole run. It was a 30 minute jog/walk set. I loved it and felt good. However, sometime during the day, I hurt my Achilles tendon. No idea how. All I know is the next day it really hurt to walk. Took a few days off to rest. Friday came and I felt good so I thought I would try again. Get up to go make dinner, step on a dog toy, and fall. Hard. Huge bruise on my leg and twisted some muscles. No running now. Ok will wait until the next week.

Week 2. Forecast calling for heavy snow on my normal running day. So I decide to switch my workout at the gym day with my running day. Get up, go to school, get sick. End up running a fever and having to go home to rest. Still sick and now have a nasty cough. Still no running.

So far I have completed only one day of training and I have signed up to complete a 5k on May 4. I knew I wasn't going to be ready to run the whole thing by then but I had hoped to be able to run at least half. At this rate, I'll be walking it.

Easter Sunday

Easter was a good day for our family this year. We had a simple dinner of ham, potato salad, garden salad and dinner rolls. I am especially pleased with how the rolls turned out. I made them from scratch. My family loves this recipe and requests it for every major holiday. This time around, I did something different, I made bunny rolls! They turned out so cute!

To start, make your favorite dinner roll recipe. Follow the directions. However, when the recipe says to shape and let rise one last time, just make balls and let them rise. You do not want to shape the bunnies and let them rise again. They will look funny. After the final rising, roll the ball into a long snake. Pinch an end off to roll into a ball for the tail and shape the bunny by twisting it.

Add the tail and place on baking sheet. Bake according to recipe directions.

Aren't they cute?! Next find a cute way to display and enjoy!

These were a hit. I will be making them again.
